As part of the sweeping immigration bill before Congress, there are provisions to establish a set of databases that employers would need to use to verify work eligibility for both future and current employees.

If a person is ineligible according to the database, run by the Department of Homeland Security, they would be considered unemployable.

Employers who fail to consult the database will face stiff penalties under the legislation.
