Congress Working To Block State Greenhouse Gas Regulations
Yes, you read that right. Rep Rick Boucher, chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee has introduced legislation making the EPA the sole decider on what the greenhouse gas emission regulations should be, if there will be any at all.
California and Vermont have already passed regulations limiting greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles sold within their borders and some 12 other states are getting ready to follow suit. The federal response looks to be to pre-empt state authority.
It should be noted that Boucher has received over $200k in campaign contributions attributed to the Energy and Auto sectors. My guess is this kind of legislation is what that money buys.
Do we really want the EPA doing this sort of regulation when they had to be sued to convince them they were even allowed to do so? They fought the case all the way to the Supreme Court and are expected to take years to decide what if any regulations they will put in place.
